This red-flowered tree is a spectacular sight in the Guanacaste region of northwest Costa Rica. It is native to Madagascar, but is now common throughout the tropics, and also grows in Florida and Hawaii. It is known by several names, including Royal Poinciana, Flame Tree, and Gulmohur. One Spanish name is Arbol de Fuego (Tree of Fire). In Costa Rica it is often called the Malinche Tree, named after a beautiful maiden of legend.
The tree is in the pea family, and has large, brown pods.
I took this photo on a hillside - I was higher than the base of the tree, and the branches in the foreground are probably 30 feet above the ground.
This was taken while on my way back from Murree, Pakistan on the new highway that they have recently made which connects Muuree to Islamabad (capital of Pakistan).
You can very clearly see how the trees have been cut to make way for the road. Its sad how such 'developmental' projects are carried out with the least regard for the environment.
On a side note, the thing I like best about this picture was how the clouds (in the back) seem to be making their way down through the trees :)
There's a tree in our yard that House Sparrows like to nest in every year. The babies are now big enough to see during feeding time.

This pot probably had flowers or a small shrub growing in it at one time. A tree grew, probably from a wind-blown seed that resulted in the pot being cracked.

"Painted" with a 0.5" shutter speed at f/22 with ISO 100 at about 2:00 p.m. in the shadow of a tall tree and facing the sun. Starting with the camera pointing toward the grass, I practiced an upward swing motion. When it felt smooth, I released the shutter and followed through with my motion.
